Most of those stats I'd heard ...VERY VERY SAD ! Most of those stats I'd heard via the grapevine & our union rep.One thing I didn't see in this piece was the fact that a lot of parents choose charter schools because many of them can pick & choose what kids attend & can kick out bad kids. That means a lot to the responsible parents of good kids. They're sick & tired of their kids coming home with tales of being beaten up, incidents of classroom violence, & their teachers being attacked by bad kids who keep getting slaps on the wrist by powerless teachers, administrators & principals. A few years ago my school had a sudden influx of kids that had been thrown out of a charter school for bad behavior. The parents of good kids are tired of the ineffective discipline & coverups of serious incidents at many public schools. They know that as a nation we have stripped school staff of the powers they had many years ago & that a teacher can lose their job trying to pull a kid off the kid he's beating up. Why? Because he "put his hands on a child". The focus then shifts to what the teacher did instead of on giving the perp serious consequences for assaulting another kid.
Glad I retired in June, but feel bad for the Philly kids. They deserve better.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9117832137870855841.post-52351762058202690932013-08-31T14:31:47.879-04:002013-08-31T14:31:47.879-04:00I have done a lot of research on this topic. Chart...I have done a lot of research on this topic. Charter schools get money from wealthy investors too. They have a lot of money to work with, in addition to taking away public school funds.

http://weteachpublicschool.com/2013/08/21/pushing-out-public-education-to-make-room-for-private-corporations/

http://weteachpublicschool.com/2013/08/12/in-philadelphia-public-schools-might-not-open-on-time-charter-schools-however-are-opening-on-schedule/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
